I love nature and discovering new places so I am kiking off this list with nature-inspired summer activities.

- Island Hopping: Explore a chain of islands by ferry or private boat, discovering hidden coves and distinct local cultures
- Midnight Sun: Experience 24 hours of daylight in northern destinations like Iceland, Norway, or Alaska (our planned trip for the next year!)
- Desert Stargazing: Spend a night in a remote desert location where the Milky Way stretches across an unpolluted sky (I saw the Milky Way a few years ago. It’s simply breathtaking!)
- Ancient Forest Bathing: Walk among giant redwoods or old-growth forests, feeling the perspective shift that comes with standing among living things centuries older than yourself
Culinary Adventures
I am a fan of trying local dishes in every place I visit. How about a trip focused on culinary experience? Or adding such an activity to your already planned trip?
- Street Food Safari: Sample authentic local cuisine from street vendors across a city’s diverse neighborhoods
- Farm-to-Table Experience: Participate in harvesting ingredients and preparing a meal at a working farm
- Coastal Seafood Trail: Follow a coastal route, stopping at small fishing villages to taste the freshest catch of the day

- Sunrise Market Run: Arrive at a famous food market as vendors set up, securing the freshest ingredients and enjoying the morning energy
Cultural Immersion

I love discovering new cultures on my travels – and there are many ways in which you can do that. Next on this article with things to do in the summer, here are some culture-focused activities:
- Festival Participation: Join locals in a traditional summer celebration, whether it’s a solstice event, historical commemoration, or cultural festival (our experience in Vienna was cool!)
- Artisan Workshop: Learn a traditional craft from a master practitioner, creating something meaningful to bring home
- Historical Reenactment: Attend or participate in a living history event that brings the past vividly to life (I admit I only saw such events in my own country, Romania, but they are definitely interesting and, if similar reenacments will take place in a city I am visiting, I am including the event on my itinerary!)
- Sacred Site Visit: Respectfully explore places of spiritual significance from various traditions around the world – I try to visit as many as possible, being mindful of the local customs and rules!
- Local Home Dinner: Arrange a meal with a local family through appropriate cultural exchange programs
Active Pursuits

If you like adrenaline-based summer activities, then here are some ideas for you:
- Multi-Day Trek: Challenge yourself with a famous hiking route, carrying only what you need
- River Journey: Float down a river for a day or several, camping on the banks and experiencing changing landscapes
- Volcanic Adventure: Hike an active (but safe) volcano or bathe in thermal waters heated by volcanic activity – so far, I have obly been to Mud volcanoes
- Cave Exploration: Discover underground wonders with a guided cave tour, from massive caverns to intricate formations – I LOVE caves – 3 very nice ones are: the Fortress Valley Cave (Peştera Valea Cetăţii) near Rasnov, Romania with a unique feature, Bear Cave and Scarisoara Cave with the oldest glacier in the world!
- Dawn Patrol Surfing: Catch waves as the sun rises, experiencing the ocean at its most peaceful time

Something new in terms of travel can also mean trying new accommodation options. Here are some ideas for you (they are on my list too):
