Great Initiative: Enjoy the Wonders of the Amazon at Home through Google Maps
The number of great places present on Google Maps grows constantly, as Amazon is the latest to be included in “street view” service. A great and amazing place, a lovely part of the world that not all the people have the chance to visit it will now be available from the comfort of the home, online.
Yes, it is always preferable to go and explore a place yourself, but sometimes that is not possible. Money, time, health and many other factors could stop people from visit there.
So besides the comfort, maybe the biggest gain is this access for everyone to great treasures of the world – museums, places, buildings etc.
This initiative shows waterways, trails and even villages and its aim is to have the whole Amazon basin mapped.
Karin Tuxen-Bettman, project lead said in a blog post, said “take a virtual boat ride down the main section of the Rio Negro, and float up into the smaller tributaries where the forest is flooded.”
“Enjoy a hike along an Amazon forest trail and see where Brazil nuts are harvested. You can even see a forest critter if you look hard enough.”
