3 Museums to Visit in Harrogate

I love visiting museums as I believe they are an open door to our past. I love visiting art museums as I like to be able to see up close some of the worlds most famous art pieces, I love visiting technical museums as they reveal our technological evolution; I like military museums, aviation museums, folk museums as well as natural history museums, railways museums and so on. Yeah, long list. If you too like to see vestiges of the past, how people lived, what they used to do for a living, maybe to see some castles as well, the, if in Harrogate, you should definitely check the local museums.

The Nidderdale Museum
If you want to find out more about the life in Nidderdale, than this is a must visit museum. There are 11 rooms with collections dedicated to agriculture, industries, religion, transport, leisure and costume. The Nidderdale Museum has also a gift shop and is a perfect place for a family visit or a solo one.

This is what you might call 2-in-one, as The Knaresborough Castle and Museum is also an impressive castle with gorgeous gardens, and a museum. This is a place that reminds visitors of medieval kings. The remains of King’s Tower can be visited, including the dungeon, as well as the Courthouse Museum where you’ll find out more about the Knaresborough’s fascinating history and the famous people who lived here.

The Royal Pump Room Museum
Last, but definitely not least, The Royal Pump Room Museum will offer you a look at Harrogate’s history. “The museum tells the story of Harrogate as a spa, with the programme of temporary exhibitions drawn from a collection of 20,000 items in the council-owned reserve collection. Mostly given by generous benefactors from the 1850s onwards, they range from ancient Egyptian artifacts to items from the 1960s.
