Would you like a resort with blond women only as staff?

Some call it a public relations stunt. Some say it’s an interesting idea. Some say it’s racist. Let’s see the fact.

I read an article about a company that plans to hire, as staff, only blond women for a holiday island in the Maldives. “A Lithuanian firm called Olialia — pronounced “ooh-la-la” — has announced that it intends to build a resort in the Maldives that will employ blond women only.”.

There’s a quote on BBC from Olialia’s blond managing director, Giedre Pukiene, who says she wants to break the stereotype that blond women are less intelligent. So the idea wouldn’t be racist.

The official statement also says that anyone, regardless of the color of her hair, can apply for the job and has a chance to get hired. However, the representative of the company also said that: ””But we find that when women with dark hair work here, they are surrounded by all these beautiful blonds, so eventually they end up going blonde too”. Hmm… could this be true, I wonder…?

It seems that the strategy is paying off, regardless of the way people see it. You can actually read the entire article on BBC.com.

Now I’m asking you: would you fancy an island with only blond good-looking women as staff? Do you think the strategy of the company is sexist or racist or do you think that a company is free to choose whatever personnel selection criteria it decides to?
