Statue of Liberty in Paris

It might come as a surprise, but yes, there is a Statue of Liberty in Paris. Actually, there are several such replicas.

One is made of bronze and located in the Jardin du Luxembourg, and the other one near the Grenelle Bridge on the Île des Cygnes, river Seine in Paris, France. This statue was given to the city in 1889, it was inaugurated on July 4, 1889 and it faces southwest, downriver along the Seine, toward its “big sister”. Another one is the original plaster, the first project (286 cm) finished in 1878 by Auguste Bartholdi. This was in fact used to make the famous statue in New York and is not exhibited in the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris. A replica of the Statue of Liberty in Colmar, and if you wander around in France you’ll find other replicas too.

Andrei, my beloved husband, saw the statue on the Grenelle Bridge from the car while he was in Paris. It was a rainy day – as you can see in the photo.
