See the Draconids – October 8, 2011

Do you know that it is said that when you see a falling star you could make a wish and, if you don’t tell anyone what you wished for that wish will come true?

You want to see a falling star – but never had the chance?

You might try to go somewhere with a clear sky (no city lights) and wide sky available on 8th of October night or 8-10 October as we find out from Wikipedia.

Many of meteors visible per hour. A chance to see at least a falling star.

I must admit I wanted to see such a falling star all mu life. Yes, I have 29 years and I have never seen such a phenomena. I even got to see on the local astronomical observatory the Perseids a couple of years ago, but I think all the people there saw at least a falling star, I saw… none :D.

I really hope I’ll be able to see something on Saturday night. Although it seems it will rain. But I’m hoping for the best. If not… next year :D.

According to Wikipedia, “On 2011 October 8 between 16h and 22h Universal Time, the shower is expected to be stronger than normal, and could reach up to 1 to 10 meteors per minute for a brief period of time, though a full Moon will disturb the observations in the sense that only the brightest meteors may be visible because of the moonlight. (…) Observers in the United Kingdom and Northern Europe are best situated to see the peak activity of the meteor storm on the night of October 8, 2011, (North America will be experiencing daytime when the peak is expected to happen) but meteors may be visible in many locations nevertheless from the 7th through the 9th. For viewing meteors, it is advised to get away from bright lights as much as possible during the night.”.

How about you? Have you ever seen a falling star? Has your wish come true?
Will you go to see the Draconids these nights?
