On 8th March in Romania, my country, we celebrate Women’s Day. It is a special day in which we try to do or offer something special to our mothers, grandmothers, wives, aunts and so on. It is not about the size of the gift, it is the special gesture and about showing them we love and treasure them.
True, we should not do that only one day a year, but it is a nice holiday and I always loved preparing something for my mother and grandmother.
Today, after several cold and cloudy days – we even had snow on Friday – was a day that started with a bright beautiful sun visible on the sky. It was a perfect start for a wonderful day. International Women’s Day was first celebrated in New York on 28th February 1909. After that, the Russian women decided to celebrate it on the first Sunday of February – and it was in 1917 that Women’s Day was celebrated on 8th March (a Sunday) and only starting from May 8th 1965, 8th March became the official day in which women are celebrated. The history of the holiday is rather interesting, but I always preferred to think at this holiday only as a perfect occasion to celebrate my mother and grandmother officially.
I take this day also as an occasion to wish you, great ladies reading my blog, no matter where you are to have a great Women’s Day! May you be happy, have a great spring and be successful in all you want to do!
