Exploring India: What Should be on Your Itinerary?

India is a fascinating country that is filled with amazing opportunities for tourists to experience. It is filled with bright colours, wonderful aromas, and lots and lots of people. There are many beautiful religious buildings and monuments, beautiful scenery, and opportunities to interact with animals that you will not experience anywhere else. If you are planning a holiday to India, here is what should be on your itinerary.

Visit the Taj Mahal
Visiting the beautiful Taj Mahal in Agra is a must for anyone who visits India. It is one of The New Wonders of the World and this stunning white marble building was built by Shah Jahan as a shrine for his third wife. Hire a personal guide to learn more about this fascinating building and try to go there at dusk to beat the heat of the day and get the best lighting for your photos.

Brihadeeswarar Temple Thanjavur
Brihadeeswarar Temple is in Thanjavur in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India and it is one of the most ancient temples in India. It was built out of granite in the 11th century to celebrate a military battle and it was dedicated to Lord Shiva. This stunning temple has been expertly preserved and it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that should not be missed.

Hang Out at Elefantastic in Jaipur
If you’re taking a tour of Jaipur, you won’t want to miss Elefantastic. Opened in 2012 by a family that wanted to ensure the ethical treatment of elephants. There are 24 elephants at the sanctuary and there are 12 available for guests to hang out with each day. Each elephant works one day and then gets a day off. Each guest is assigned their own elephant that they can help prepare food for, greet, feed and build a relationship with. Once you are comfortable with your elephant you also get the opportunity to decorate it with animal friendly paints any way that you like.

Explore The Backwaters Of Kerala
Kerala is a state in south western India and it is a great place to relax and recharge. If you practise yoga, then Kerala will be the perfect yoga destination for you. You can rent a houseboat and explore the tranquil backwaters where you can see wildlife, stunning scenery, and stop and meditate at beautiful beaches. You can rent different sizes of houseboats depending on how many people you have with you or book one as a couple for an amazing romantic getaway. The food in Kerala is fabulous so be sure to indulge every chance you get.

Tiger Sanctuaries
There are 39 tiger sanctuaries in India and they are located throughout the country. Tigers are endangered creatures and the population of these magnificent animals continues to dwindle due to loss of habitat and poaching. India has more wild tigers than anywhere else in the world and it is a great place to view them. You can take safaris through the jungle in a four-wheel drive vehicle or go on a guided trek. These huge cats are notoriously shy creatures so you must keep your eyes peeled but you may also see animals like leopards, deer, wild boars, wild elephants, large snakes, peacocks, cranes, and many different kinds of arachnids and insects.
