The Black Sea in Spring

by Lori

Yesterday we took a short trip to the Black Sea city of Constanta (in Romania). It is spring, the sea is rather cold, the season is not yet opened so you can imagine an almost empty road (that’s a good thing :) ) and almost empty beaches. All the sand just for you to enjoy, everything for you to admire without any obstacle, the sea just for you to listen:).

We took the trip yesterday since the next weekend the seaside will be full. The reason? Very simple. 1st of May is, let’s say, a national holiday and many people have developed a tradition to go to the sea on May 1st. Of course the offer has evolved in time – now there are clubs and bars to spend time, many concerts and so on. During communism (up to and including 1989) May 1st was the National Labor Day – many official events, shows etc. At the end of 1989 the former Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife were “executed” and democracy replaced the former totalitarian regime in Romania, after a so-called “revolution”. However, for many people the 1st of May remained a day associated with “going to the sea for the first time in a year” – and I have many friends just waiting for the next weekend.

But enough talking – let’s see some pictures: the sea, the waves, the shore, the waves crushing into the sand and an interesting effect. Enjoy!
