GPS – A MUST in a vacation

by Lori

I was thinking what one really needs to take in a vacation and I think that the final answer is a GPS-based map device . It doesn’t matter if it’s a dedicated device or a piece of software like iGO or Tom-Tom. The important thing is to have one.

I’ll give you an example: you could end up on a different road then the known one (work or stuff like that); or you may want to visit something and has no mood to follow the map. You may also go to a country that does not have too good road signaling. Here a GPS could turn into a life saviour – provided you have the updated maps too…

While driving a car it is obvious why this device is useful. But why in a town? Well, simple. I told you about Jungferngasse. We were wandering in Vienna and we really wanted to go to this street but we were not in the mood to follow a map (small font etc.). Besides, a map does not have a “search” function. So we used the cell phone (that actually has a GPS receiver and the appropriate software=) and it was perfect. We got there in almost no time.

Do you have a story to tell when a GPS device proved to be essential?
